Summer 2016 is the summer I commit to "Nature Woman" status. A push from my husband into a kayak and a renewed dedication to hiking more has pushed this Nature Woman to exploring and photographing what nature has to offer.

SpiderwortSpiderwortPlentiful rains in Kansas have produced some beautiful wildflowers.

Spiderwort is an abundant wildflower of Kansas. The recent rains at Wilson Lake have produced a beautiful crop of spiderwort on the Nature Trail to Rock Town, Wilson Lake.

As a hiking photographer, the journey is just as important as the destination. The destination may take lots longer to reach because of all of the interesting things you find to photograph along the way.

Prickly Poppy is another wildflower of Kansas. You can find Prickly Poppy throughout Kansas. Destination Rock Town finally in view!

Finally reaching our destination, the larger rocks that mark the area of Wilson Lake called Rock Town. The rocks bring back memories of my younger brother and sister jumping off the rocks into the water when they were much younger and there was plenty of water to jump into.  Today, my friend and I share memories of going to the lake with our families while we rest on some of these old rocks. I know, as my experiences went, summer weekends spent at the lake were some of my fondest family memories.

Sometimes I walk into places like high grass, etc. and my imagination sees snakes and creatures that might freak me out. Instead, the only wildlife was a toad and a few birds. Toad, Wilson LakeToad, Wilson Lake

More wildlife included a Cliff Swallow and a Rock Wren.

Our slow hike back to my truck included many more wildflowers, such as the Prairie Dandelion and the White Penstemon.

As my friend and I slowly hike back to my truck, I think created a new memory of tackling this hike together.
